I carry out all aspects of interior painting and decorating in Bedford and around Bedfordshire to a very high standard, from single rooms to full house interior redecorations. All areas to be painted are thoroughly prepared beforehand, including any priming, and any stains are treated with stain blocker. Only quality trade paints and materials from decorating centres are used. Wallpapering
I offer a complete wallpapering service in Bedford and the surrounding area. Any removal of existing wallpaper is either removed using traditional methods with water, brush and scraper, or with a steam stripper if needed. All areas that are going to be papered are filled, rubbed down and sized and allowed to dry prior to hanging wallpaper to help achieve proper adhesion. I hang all types of wallpaper, including lining paper, Wallrock fibreliner, vinyl, anaglypta, superfresco and many more. Feature wall wallpapering brings out the very best in any room. Some wallpapers are hung with extra strong ready mixed paste, others are hung with mix yourself flake paste. Trimming of wallpaper is done using a very sharp blade and a straight edge spatula.

Why should I use George Coull Painting and Decorating to decorate my house?
My vast experience in the decorating trade, my reliability, cleanliness, trustworthy, attention to detail, and all work finished to the highest standard. Very reasonable prices. No payment until completely satisfied with my work.
What are your normal working hours?
I usually start work at 8.00 am and finish between 4.00 and 5.00 pm. I don’t work weekends unless the customer needed the area finished so they could have new flooring fitted, for example.
Do you work on a day rate or do you quote for the complete job?
I never work on a day rate basis, as in my opinion it costs the customer a lot more if they are paying someone by the day. I always provide a quote and that never changes unless in the unlikely event any additional coats of paint are needed. If quoting for more than 1 room then individual prices for each area are supplied.
How many coats of paint do you quote for?
Great question. 99% of the time I would allow for 2 coats of paint on ceilings and walls, and 2 coats of paint on woodwork and metalwork, 3 coats if there is any bare or new woodwork.
Do you use high-quality paints and materials?
Yes. Only trade paints and quality materials are used. This helps achieve a professional finish, good durability, and a result that not only looks excellent when completed but also stands up well to everyday wear and tear.
Do you have business insurance?
Yes I have full public liabilities insurance with cover up to £1 million pounds. In all the years I have been in the trade I have never had to make a claim, but I would never be without cover.
Who carries out the work?
All work is carried out personally by me from start to finish. I am a sole trader, and I never have or will sub contract work out. I’m honest with people, if I am snowed under with work and people contact me for a quote, I tell them the truth, how busy I am, if they can wait I go and look at the job and supply a quote, if they cant, people like my honesty and they look for someone else.

I started my 3 year apprenticeship in early 1985 at Mander college Bedford for 3 years while working for my fathers company. When my father retired, I went out on my own working as a self employed painter and decorator. So been a Painter and Decorator for 41 years.

The truth be told, people need to be careful when getting prices, are everyone who is pricing for the work, pricing for the same thing ? ie – 2 coats of paint on all surfaces, are they using trade paints, are they a qualified painter and decorator ? I honestly believe if I was pricing against someone with my experience and doing the same amount of coats of paint and using trade paints I would beat anyone’s quote. I am not greedy, I only charge customers exactly what the materials cost me, no profit on them at all. Along with other things, I believe my pricing of jobs fairly is one of the reasons I am still painting and decorating after 40 years.
